About metal piping accessories certification and testing 

Kiwa Watermark quality mark certified metal piping accessories guarantee compliance with the requirements of Dutch and international standards for products used for drinking water distribution. In addition, the products meet the strict hygienic requirements, as set by the Dutch government. Only products that meet all requirements - including an agreed constant quality level -  can be certified by Kiwa with the Kiwa Watermark.

Kiwa Watermark certification evaluation guidelines 

The Kiwa Watermark evaluation guidelines include all requirements set by the market and government for products that come into contact with drinking water: both the private, functional requirements and the public, hygienic requirements. 

Stop- and connecting cocks (BRL-K604)

Certification of stop- and connecting cocks is relevant for producers and suppliers of stop cocks.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK604 applies to:

  • stop cocks with disc, with a nominal diameter up to DN 100,
  • other stop cocks with a nominal diameter up to DN50,
  • connecting cocks with a nominal diameter up to DN 15.

Stop-and connecting cocks are designed to be used in tap water installations with a maximum working pressure of 1000 kPa and a water temperature with a maximum of 65°C. Using the products in water installations with a water temperature up to 90°C is possible. However, this may influence the durability of some parts and the contact temperature of the operation handle.

Stop-and connecting cocks can be distinguished in the following designs

  • Stop cocks with disc;
  • Stop cocks with membrane;
  • Stop cocks with plug;
  • Stop cocks with ball;
  • Stop cocks with gate; Stop cocks with central, eccentric and doubly eccentric revolving closing element;
  • Connecting cocks.

Fire hydrants (BRL-614)

Certification of fire hydrants is relevant for drinking water companies, companies with their own extinguishing supply and fire hydrant suppliers.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK614 applies to fire hydrants intended to be used as a device for extinguishing water, connected to the distribution network or to drinking water installations with a working pressure of maximum 1.000 kPa and a water temperature of maximum of than 25°C.

Fluxes and tin plating pastes for soft soldering of capillary joints (BRL-K624)

Certification of fluxes and tin plating pastes is relevant for coating manufacturers, applicators and drinking water companies.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK624 applies to products intended for use in soft soldering copper and copper alloy connections in potable water installations, gas installations, air conditioning units, sprinkler installations, tools and other similar systems. When used in soft soldering, a tinning paste has a tinning effect on the connecting parts. Furthermore, the remaining space shall be filled with soldering material.

The processing temperature of both the fluxes and the tin-plating pastes must not exceed 300°C. The use of fluxes or tin-plating pastes certified according to this Evaluation Guideline is the user does not want to clean the parts to be connected in the proper way, as well as to clean the parts to be connected adequately and, if possible, internal cleaning after the connection has been made.

The evaluation guideline BRL K624 is a certification scheme for the Kiwa product certificate for fluxes and tin plating pastes for soft soldering of capillary connections of copper and copper alloys.

Metal brackets with and without rubber insert (BRL-K627)

Certification of metal brackets is relevant for installers, engineering agencies and house owners.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK627 applies to metal brackets with and without rubber insert intended for fixing copper drinking water pipes in accordance with NEN-EN1057 (without sheathing), with outer diameters of 12, 15, 22, 28, 35, 42 and 54 mm.

Metal brackets with rubber insert have a sound-absorbing function. Means for the bracket on a surface or the like and which are integral with the bracket are considered to fall under this evaluation guideline.

The evaluation guideline BRL K627 is a certification scheme for the Kiwa product certificate for metal brackets, with and without rubber insert.

Accessories in buildings and household appliances (BRL-K630)

Certification of accessories for hot water supply in drinking water installations is relevant for installers, designers, house owners among others.

The accessories for hot water supply are intended to be used to be used in drinking water installations and for hot tapping water with a pressure of maximum 1MPa and a water temperature of maximum 90ºC. The aim of the accessories is preventing exceeding in maximum pressure and/ or water temperature and preventing backflow of heated water.

The functional aspect are based on:

  • NEN-EN 1487 Building valves - Hydraulic safety groups - Tests and requirements
  • NEN-EN 1488 Building valves - Expansion groups - Tests and requirements
  • NEN-EN 1489 Building valves - Pressure safety valves - Test and requirements

Water hammer dampers (BRL-K632)

The Kiwa product certificate for products preventing water surge for coating manufacturers, applicators, drinking water companies, manufacturers, wholesalers installation articles and installers.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK632 applies to water hammer dampers intended to be used for damping pressure surges in drinking water pipes, which are part of tap water installations with an operating pressure of no more than 1000 kPa and a water temperature of no more than 30°C.

Fixed firefighting systems. Hose systems: hose reels with semi-rigid hose (BRL-K643)

The Kiwa product certificate for hose systems is aimed at producers and suppliers of fixed firefighting systems.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK643 applies to hose reels with semi-rigid hose which have been designed for firefighting purposes and can be connected to drinking water installations with a maximum water pressure of 1000 kPa and a water temperature of maximum 30°C.

Water meter brackets (BRL-K645)

The Kiwa product certificate for water meter brackets is aimed at installers, water companies, house owners and engineering consultants.

Water meter brackets that comply to BRL-K645 can be used in drinking water installations with a maximum water pressure of 1000 kPa and a maximum temperature 30ºC.

Semi-rigid hose for fire hose reels in fixed firefighting systems (BRL-K664)

Certification of semi-rigid hoses for fire hose reels is relevant for producer or supplier of firefighting systems.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK664 applies to semi-rigid hoses designed to be used on fire hose reels conform the Kiwa evaluation guideline BRL-K643 ‘Fixed firefighting systems. Hose systems: hose reels with semi-rigid hose’. These hose reels can be connected to drinking water installations with a maximum water pressure of 1000 kPa and a water temperature of maximum 30°C.

The evaluation guideline BRL K664 is a certification scheme for the Kiwa product certificate for semi-rigid hose for fire hose reels in fixed firefighting systems.

Repair clamps (BRL-K777)

Certification of repair clamps is relevant for coating manufacturers, applicators, producers and drinking water companies.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK777 applies to products intended to be used in piping systems with a maximum water pressure of 1,0 MPa, a water temperature of not more than 30°C and a nominal diameter greater than or equal to 15 mm and less than or equal to 400 mm. The products are intended to repair cracks, holes and fractures and to make permanent connections with the mentioned piping systems.

Expansion vessels for drinking water installations (BRL-K14021)

Certification of expansion vessels for drinking water installation is relevant for owners of collective tap water installations and installation companies.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK14021 applies to expansion vessels for drinking water installations. Expansion vessels also include switching vessels as described in Water Worksheet WB 4.3A.

The expansion vessels can be used for tap water applications with an operating pressure of up to 1000 kPa and a water temperature of up to 65°C. Occasional use with a water temperature up to 95°C is possible if limited to a maximum of 1 consecutive hour.

The expansion vessels can be used in drinking water installations with a continuous temperature higher than 65°C. This evaluation guideline specifies the minimum design requirements, the functionality and test methods independent of the type and materials used.

Kiwa Watermark certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline BRLK14031 applies to mini hose reel systems for 12mm semi rigid hose which have been designed for firefighting and other purposes and can be connected to drinking water installations with a maximum water pressure of 1000 kPa and a water temperature of maximum 30°C.
