Who is Kiwa certification and testing for?

KiwaQuality certified products are relevant for manufacturers of rubber compounds and rubber products, distributors, traders, constructors, purchasers and maintenance and asset managers to increase reliability, safety and service life of critical and expensive industrial installations and equipment.

The Kiwa Watermark product certification for products and applications in contact with drinking water in The Netherlands are important for contractors, architect, installers, plumbers and anyone working for a municipality or housing association involved in installing drinking water installations.

About Kiwa testing and certification for various plastics piping products

KiwaQuality mark certified products guarantee compliance with the requirements of Dutch and international standards for products used for transport of chemicals. The lifetime of these products shall at least meet the required operating lifetime.

Kiwa Watermark certified products guarantee compliance with the requirements of Dutch and international standards for products used for drinking water distribution. In addition, the products meet the hygienic requirements, as set by the Dutch government. Only products that meet all requirements - including an agreed constant quality level - can be certified by Kiwa with the Kiwa Watermark. The guaranteed lifetime of the Kiwa Watermark certified pipes and fittings used outside buildings for transport of drinking water is at least 50 years.

Plastics piping systems for industrial applications - monolayer piping systems of PB, PE, PE-RT, PE-X, PP, ABS, PVC-U, PVC-C and PVDF (KQ-17601)

KiwaQuality certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline KQ-17601 applies to products intended to be applied in plastics piping systems for the transport of chemical (hazardous) liquids and gaseous fluids, as well as of solid matter in fluids for industrial applications such as:

  • chemical plants,
  • industrial sewerage engineering,
  • power engineering (cooling and general-purpose water supply),
  • electroplating and pickling industry,
  • the semiconductor industry,
  • water treatment.

The plastics piping systems are intended for underground as well as above ground applications. In the case of above ground applications, the piping systems might be directly exposed to sunlight.

For applications specially in the field of transport of gaseous and liquid fuels national (legal) requirements, e.g. standards, evaluation guidelines, national certification scheme’s, may be applicable.

This evaluation guideline specifies the characteristics and requirements for components such as pipes and fittings from one of the following materials:

  • polybutene (PB),
  • polyethylene (PE),
  • polyethylene of raised temperature resistance (PE-RT),
  • crosslinked polyethylene (PE-X),
  • polypropylene (PP),
  • acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS),
  • unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U),
  • chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (PVC-C),
  • polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF).

The requirements embodied in this evaluation guideline are applicable for plastics monolayer piping systems with welded and solvent cemented joints as well as mechanical connections.

The KQ 17601 evaluation guideline is a certification scheme for the KiwaQuality certificate for plastics piping systems for industrial applications - monolayer piping systems of PB, PE, PE-RT, PE-X, PP, ABS, PVC-U, PVC-C and PVDF.

Vulcanised rubber seals in plastic transport and storage systems for chemical liquids and gaseous fluids for industrial applications (KQ-17602)

KiwaQuality certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline KQ-17602 applies to products intended to be applied as seals in plastic systems for the transport and storage of chemical (hazardous) liquids and gaseous fluids, as well as of solid matter in fluids for industrial applications.

Examples of industrial applications are installations in chemical plants, power plants, steel and metal industry, semiconductor industry and water treatment.

The intended systems comprehend plastic piping, fittings and connectors and plastic storage tanks. The systems are intended for underground as well as above ground applications. Pipes, fittings, connectors and tanks made of glass reinforced plastics (GRP) are also included in the scope.

The KQ 17602 evaluation guideline is a certification scheme for the KiwaQuality product certificate for vulcanised rubber seals in plastic transport and storage systems for chemical liquids and gaseous fluids for industrial applications.

Plastics piping systems for industrial applications - multilayer piping systems of PB, PE, PE-RT, PE-X, PP, ABS, PVC-U, PVC-C and PVDF

KiwaQuality certification under Kiwa evaluation guideline KQ-17603 applies to products intended to be applied in plastics piping systems for the transport of chemical (hazardous) liquids and gaseous fluids as well as of solid matter in fluids for industrial applications such as:

  • chemical plants,
  • industrial sewerage engineering,
  • power engineering (cooling and general-purpose water supply),
  • electroplating and pickling industry,
  • the semiconductor industry,
  • water treatment.

The plastics piping systems are intended for underground as well as above ground applications. In the case of above ground applications, the piping systems might be directly exposed to sunlight.

For applications especially in the field of transport of gaseous and liquid fuels national (legal) requirements, e.g. standards, evaluation guidelines, national certification scheme’s, may be applicable.

This evaluation guideline specifies the characteristics and requirements for the following types of multilayer pipes: P-pipes, M-pipes and F-pipes.

The requirements embodied in this evaluation guideline are applicable for multilayer piping systems with welded and solvent cemented joints as well as mechanical connections. In case fittings are provided with rubber sealing elements, then these rubber sealing elements must be certified according to BRL KQ-17602.

The KQ 17603 evaluation guideline is a certification scheme for the KiwaQuality certificate for plastics piping systems for industrial applications - multilayer piping systems of PB, PE, PE-RT, PE-X, PP, ABS, PVC-U, PVC-C and PVDF.
