The organic market in Japan has been growing steadily for many years. The higher level of affluence in Japanese society is leading consumers to value organic quality in their diets. Kiwa BCS performs JAS certification for the entire organic production chain, including further packaging or relabelling, of products that can be certified according to the Japanese Agricultural Standard "JAS" for organic produce and processed food.

The EU has already concluded an equivalence agreement with Japan in 2013, which makes it possible to trade processed organic products between the two countries without any further certification for EU-based companies. Details can be found HERE.

Procedure for JAS certification:

First, you obtain a non-binding offer from us. After a positive response and conclusion of the contract, we carry out the initial inspection in your business. At the end of each organic inspection, a control report is drawn up containing all the test points and their results. In order to guarantee high quality and independence in the certification process, we always work according to the four-eyes principle. This means that the inspection and the certification cannot be carried out by the same personnel. After the inspection, a second expert in our office makes the certification decision on the basis of the inspection report. If your company fulfils all legal requirements, our certifiers will issue your JAS certificate. From this day on, you are allowed to export the corresponding products to Japan as organic products.
