Course introduction
Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) Level 3 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection is comprised of 6 non-consecutive training days as follows:
- 28 January 2025
- 29 January 2025
- 11 February 2025
- 12 February 2025
- 18 February 2025
- 19 February 2025
There's 1 examination (booked separately via the Institution of Fire Engineers).
The training is delivered in a series of 1-day lectures ranged over a three-week period, and offers a foundation in fire safety and fire science as well as units on different forms of passive fire protection.
There will be an optional Exam Practice Day (Date TBC). This is subject to additional cost not covered by the course fees and can be booked at any time throughout the course.

This qualification will be appropriate for individuals either directly engaged in passive fire protection or those who need to develop an understanding of the passive fire safety systems that are essential to the delivery of their primary role such as:
- Managers and technical supervisors working in passive fire protection roles

- Fire Protection to the structural frame of the building and fire-retardant coatings
- Fire resisting walls, floors and ceilings and fire resistant glazing
- Fire stopping and penetration seals, cavity barriers, ductwork and dampers and the building envelope
- Fire resisting doors, industrial shutters, and associated hardware.

This high level course offers a foundation in fire safety and fire science as well as units on the full range of passive fire protection systems. This is the knowledge that will equip delegates to study towards the IFE Level 3 certificate in passive fire protection qualification.
It provides units that focus upon a selected range of Passive Fire Protection Systems as well as an understanding of Active Systems, Regulatory Guidance, CDM, CE Marking and Codes of Practice.
