BRL-K21012/01 External paint systems for above ground steel tanks
Paint systems certified to the requirements of BRL-K21012 are suitable for the external protection of above ground steel tanks. Tanks protected with these coatings can be installed in all areas with a corrosion category from C2, C3, C4, C5I and C5M as defined in ISO 12944-2. These paint systems have an life expectancy of at least 15 years when applied by an applicator certified to the requirements of BRL-K790 "Application of paint systems on steel tanks, pipes & fittings".

For whom?
Owners of underground storage tanks. Also, this Evaluation Guideline is important for coating applicators certified to the requirements of Evaluation Guideline BRL-K790.
When is it necessary?
Owners of above ground steel storage tanks are required to protect these tanks by means of an external paint system. Depending on the corrosion category of the area where the tank is to be installed a different paint system shall be suitable. The paint systems complying with BRL-K21012 are suitable for all corrosion categories.
